Inter Milan return to Doha for their third appearance at Al Kass, having finished fourth in 2013 and gone one better in 2016. One of the titans of the global game, and the only side never to have been relegated from Serie A in Italy, Inter’s pedigree is beyond question.

So too is their proud history of venerating homegrown players. Their youth academy is called the Centro Sportivo Giacinto Facchetti, named after Inter’s greatest defender. Facchetti rose through the ranks to represent the club 476 times, playing for his country on 94 occasions, and captaining Italy through two World Cup tournaments. The defensive giant passed away in 2006, but remains a source of inspiration amongst academy attendees. The same can be said for Giuseppe Bergomi, another ‘one-club man’ who graduated from the youth system to make more than 500 appearances for Inter.

After several years of relative underachievement, Inter are now back where they belong, with their senior side atop Serie A as Al Kass International Cup gets underway. The youngsters from Milan will be dreaming of emulating their famous forebears here in Doha.
