Rangers return to Doha to defend their Al Kass crown after taking the tournament by storm in their 2019 debut. They will carry the hopes of the blue half of Glasgow with them, having captured the imagination of their fervent supporters back home with a series of thrilling displays en route to cup glory. Such was their performance that several members of the Class of 2019 have been linked with moves to some of the biggest sides in Europe.

Rangers Academy was completely remodelled four years ago, developing an innovative strategy designed to challenge the norms of talent development not only at Rangers but throughout Scotland, with the overall aim of becoming one of Europe’s top academies. Through an all-inclusive football curriculum and sports science programme created to meet the needs of each player, the academy seeks to provide its young talents with the best practices in various fields such as technical, game awareness, tactical and physical development. As last year’s amazing Al Kass Cup run demonstrates, the academy is clearly succeeding in its aims.

This time around, the young Scots arrive in Qatar with a squad featuring Francis Jacobs, the youngest professional player in the history of US football who is currently on loan from Orange County SC, Rangers’ American partner club.
